The only fibre here that was not invented. It insulates, holds its shape, is naturally flame-resistant, and takes dye deeply so the colour stays rich for years. Expect $60–250/m² supplied and installed, with most Sydney jobs landing at $90–150, and 15–25 years of life.
Man-made fibres – polyester, polypropylene and triexta – chosen for price, stain resistance and easy maintenance. Right for spare rooms, rentals and anywhere the budget is tight, though the pile flattens under heavy traffic sooner than wool or nylon does. Expect $40–70/m² supplied and installed, with a realistic life of 5–10 years.
The toughest of the common carpet fibres, and the word that matters is solution-dyed: the pigment goes into the liquid polymer before the fibre is formed, so the colour runs all the way through and survives sunlight and cleaning. Expect $35–70/m² supplied and installed, and 12–15 years.
